Thermoplastic Elastomers (TPE)
Thermoplastic Elastomers (TPE)
Introduced commercially only in the 1960s, thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) is a polymer material with thermoset vulcanized rubber and thermoplastic properties. TPE exhibits the high elasticity of thermosetting vulcanized rubber at room temperature and good workability of thermoplastic at high temperature.
The main difference between thermoset elastomers/rubbers and thermoplastic elastomers is in the type of crosslinking in their structure. In fact, crosslinking is a critical structural factor that contributes to imparting high elastic properties. TPEs provide the simplest way to achieve outstanding properties by simply changing the blend compositions and viscosity of ingredients and composition components at a low cost.
