Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA)
Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA)
PMMA or poly (methyl 2-methylpropenoate) is produced from the monomer methyl methacrylate. It is a clear, colorless polymer that exists in the form of pellets, small granules and sheets, which is then formed by all thermoplastic methods (including injection molding, compression molding and extrusion). The highest quality PMMA sheets are produced by cell casting, but in this case the polymerization and molding steps take place simultaneously. It is often referred to as acrylic glass.
Due to its extremely high molecular mass, the strength of the material is higher than that of molding grades. Rubber toughener was used to increase the toughness of PMMA due to its brittle behavior in response to applied loads. PMMA is 100% recyclable.
FEATURES
PMMA – widely used in various applications due to its many advantageous properties. Perhaps the most well-known of these properties is light transmittance. Typical PMMA grades allow 92 percent of the light to pass through, more than glass or other plastics. This exceptional clarity enables PMMA to be used in many different optical and related applications.

UV Stability
Surface hardness
Numerous color options with excellent stability and surface effects.
Light
It is easily machined and processed with standard mechanical and thermal techniques.
It is insoluble in water and resistant to salt water.
Acrylic sheets and their polyethylene protective layers are fully recyclable.
Some grades are approved for food contact.
Acrylic sheets do not contain toxic substances or heavy metals that can harm the environment or cause health risks.
When acrylic burns, it does not emit toxic or corrosive gases in accordance with international standards.
Easy maintenance (cleaning and polishing)
