Heat Stabilizers
Heat stabilizers are substances that prevent polymer degradation processes that occur under the influence of increased temperature during material processing. They provide a uniform color in the finished products, effectively preventing deterioration processes throughout the entire life cycle of the product. To achieve the best results, heat stabilizers are used in combination with other types of stabilizers.
With regard to polymeric materials, the concept of degradation or aging is used to denote changes in physical properties due to chemical reactions. These reactions break the polymer chain which reduces the molar mass of the macromolecular compound. During processing, plastics can be subject to degradation, which affects the properties of the finished product, namely color, gloss, hue. Therefore, heat stabilizers are applied to prevent further deterioration.
Process stabilizers are used in many industries, including plastics, paints, varnishes, the construction industry and transportation.
Heat stabilizers are widely used to protect vinyl products at all stages by increasing the high temperature resistance of PVC products.
Depending on the type of oxidation, various heat stabilizers are commercially available, such as metallic salts (stabilize PVC), organometallic compounds, non-metallic organic stabilizers, organophosphites, and epoxies.
